What is wrong with my hymen?

Okay me and my boyfriend are trying to have sex. He fingers me, and he said he noticed a string in there.. i havent noticed this.. but he does.. so i looked online and it said i may have a subseptate hymen. does this mean i have to get it surgically removed?? is there any other way i can break it because when he trys to put it in it hurts really bad.
