Is cancer curable???

ok lets say a person has a cancer in their colon area. If you surgically remove that part of the colon, isn't that technically a cure? I had cancer in my appendix, it was removed, dont know if it has spread to the colon, but the doc said if it has he will just remove that part of the colon
