Roswell "crash"...why not release the records from that event?

With all the interest in the new Area 51 book and the new claim Stalin created a space plane with surgically altered Soviet dwarf pilots, that crashed at Roswell, a thought came to mind. Why not release the original file? What good does it do to mislead citizens which are tired of the all stories? Is it ethical, or constitutional, to keep citizens ignorant if they don't half to be?
