Would you accept antidepressants from a GP?

Yes i would, GP's as you said aren't qualified in the finer points of psychiatry, in which case they would refer you to a psychiatrist, which is what happened to me but they are qualified enough to diagnose common mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety. At one point my GP suggested changing my antidepressant to citalopram but said she would leave it up to my psychiatrist who then suggested the same drug. Depression when straight forward is easy to recognise, if GPs are uncertain then they refer you.
