Be "on your best behavior"?

I always felt like being on your best behavior is arrogant. When you're on your best behavior, you're showing someone a highlight reel of you who you are so you're lying to them! People don't wanna see Who you can be if you put your effort towards it. That's not who people will see over time so why bother? They're gonna find out who you truly are sooner than later
